Dana Michaels was in Ottawa this weekend teaching the tap portion of the traveling Candance convention along side other notable dancers including Misha Gabrieal, Mikeal Knight, Tiffany Mclean, and and Benji Schwimmer (of So You Think You Can Dance fame).Michael's taught a variety of rhythmic tap sessions, including a special teacher's class. Her combination of creativity, speed, with an emphasis of on weight transfer and centre, were (at least for this heavily biased blogger) a highlight of the weekend.
These combo hiphop/jazz/lyrical/tap mega-workshops may not be ideal for single-minded dance folks like myself but they are a great way to see highly talented individuals in a variety of different styles that might not otherwise make it out this way.
I've included a picture of her (along with her two assistants, of which I never got their names unfortunately) with some of our students.
